How to use this page

Each of the boxes on this page contains the form code for creating search boxes for subscription sites.

An example of each search box is provided below the code to show you what you're getting.

  • Copy the code you see in the box.
    Don't copy the actual search box
  • In your guide, create a new Rich Text box.
  • Click add text, then click the Plain-Text Editor tab.
  • Paste in the code we've provided
  • Update any red text with the information for your institution
  • Click Save and Close

Voilà! You've got a super cool search box!

Note: The search boxes here are just samples, NOT actual live widgets.

How Do You Do It?

Serials Solutions has several products, so there are boxes below for various searches & how to create them.

These are based on our past experience with these databases.
If they are out of date, please check with Serials Solutions!

If you think something is missing, please let us know!

Summon Widgets allows you to easily create either a search widget or search box so you can add them to your guides!

The widgets can search your entire Summon subscription, or they can be targeted to any filters / facets you choose when using the Summon Widgets tool.

  • Copy this URL and paste it into your address bar - replace mylibrary with your library name before hitting Enter / Go!
    • Click the Search Widget on the left to create a search widget.
    • Click the Search Box on the right to create a simple search box.
  • Questions / want more instructions? Check out the ProQuest Support Center!
    (Contact ProQuest Support if you don't know your support center login.)

Once you've created your widget, copy the code the Summon Widgets tool gives you (the Get Code area) and add it to your LibGuides site!

360 Search

Replace all instances of ssclientid with your Serials Solutions Client Identifier.

Proxy prefix for authentication: If you're using EZ Proxy, follow the instructions below. I'm not currently sure how this works for WAM, but would definitely appreciate hearing from someone out there on how to make this work!

For EZ Proxy: Take your prefix URL and remove the login?url=. In it's place, add form?qurl=.
For example, would become

Once you have your prefix properly formed, add it at the beginning of the action URL in the form code.

Search Box - Choose Subject from a Dropdown Menu

You'll need to find your category IDs for the subjects you defined in your system. You can either ask Serials Solutions for these numbers, or you can go to your search page, right click, view page source, and look for the "catID" in the code for each subject.

For each category, you'll enter an "option" line (see the code below). So, copy the "option" line and paste it as many times as you need to create an option in the drop down list for each subject category you have defined in your system.

<form action="" name="searchForm" target="new" method="post">
  <input value="ssclientid" name="SS_LibHash" type="hidden" />
  <input name="dbIDList" type="hidden" />
  <input value="default" name="catGroupList" type="hidden" />
  <input name="currentCat" type="hidden" />
  <input value="Category" name="searchBy" type="hidden" />
  <input value="Title" name="field0" type="hidden" />
  <input value="all" name="catID" type="hidden" />
  <input maxlength="1000" size="30" name="term0" value=" e.g. ''web design''" type="text" />
  <select name="catID">
    <option value="catIDnumber">Category Name</option>
    <option value="catIDnumber">Category Name</option>
  <input value="Search" type="submit" /> <font size="-3"><i>Powered by Central Search</i></font>

Search Box - Create Your Own Quick Search

You can also create your own Quick Search! Just choose what databases you want, find the "dbID" (database ID) from your Serials Solutions account, and use the template below.

For each database, find the "dbID" - go to the database page list in your 360 or Central Search account. Right click and "view page source". Find the database you'd like in the code and look to the left of it to find the dbID.

Use as many of the "input name="dbID"" lines as you need/want for your quick search.

<form action="" name="searchForm" method="post" target="new">
  <input value="ssclientid" name="SS_LibHash" type="hidden" />
  <input name="dbIDList" type="hidden" />
  <input value="basic" name="searchType" type="hidden" />
  <input value="default" name="catGroupList" type="hidden" />
  <input name="searchBy" value="Database" type="hidden" />
  <input value="Keyword" name="field" type="hidden" />
  <input name="dbID" value="dbID" type="hidden" />
  <input name="dbID" value="dbID" type="hidden" />
  <input name="dbID" value="dbID" type="hidden" />
  <input name="dbID" value="dbID" type="hidden" />
  <input name="dbID" value="dbID" type="hidden" />
  <input name="dbID" value="dbID" type="hidden" />

  <input value="Search" type="submit" />
  <font size="-3"><i>Powered by Central Search</i></font>

Search Box - Search Only 1 Subject

Want a search box for just 1 subject? It's easy! Just find the catID and add it to the code below!

<form action="" name="searchForm" target="new" method="post">
  <input value="ssclientid" name="SS_LibHash" type="hidden" />
  <input value="Category" name="searchBy" type="hidden" />
  <input value="catID" name="catID" type="hidden" />
  <input value="Keyword" name="field0" type="hidden" />
  <input maxlength="1000" size="30" name="term0" type="text" />
  <input value="Search" type="submit" /> <font size="-3"><i>Powered by Central Search</i></font>
