What doesn't count as a "hit"
Clicks on content when you're logged in to LibGuides
There's a difference in the guide/page URLs that patrons see, and the URLs that you see when logged in as an editor:

vs.

See it? "aecontent" represents "editor mode" - ie the guide content you've created, plus all of the editor links & options on the page ("Add Box" links, yellow Command bar, etc.).
Content "Hits" are not counted on these pages - so if you're logged in and editing a guide, the system won't tally hits when you click on pages, test links, etc.
Clicks when in Preview mode
If you see &preview=a random string of characters in your URL, you're in Preview mode.
While you're in Preview mode, no statistics will be tracked. If you share this preview URL with anyone, no statistics will be tracked for their clicks either.
Clicks on content added in a Rich Text box
When you add content (particularly links to resources) to Rich Text boxes, LibGuides can't track how many times users have clicked on those links. This is one of many reasons why we highly recommend adding links in Simple Web Links / Links & Lists boxes whenever possible!
How are stats recorded for Linked/Copied content?
| Item Type | Look for the statistics on... |
|---|---|
| Copied item (link, book, etc.) | The guide that contains the copied item |
| Linked (or "reused") item | The guide that contains the linked item |
| Item in copied box | The guide that contains the copied box |
| Item in linked/reused box | The guide that contains the original box |
| Item in copied page | The guide that contains the copied page |
| Item in linked/reused page | The guide that contains the original page |
| Item in API call | The guide that contains the original item |
Except where noted above, you will not be able to find aggregated usage statistics. The only way to get the aggregated usage statistics for a reused link or book in the system would be to run the statistics report for each guide the link is on and adding the statistics together.
